Same Same but different

There are many problems which occur in this world today. Some people have enough food, clothes, live in a nice house and have a good education, but some need your helping hand to pick them up and go with you. Those people don't have enough food to eat, they don't have adequate shelter to stay in and they don't have the money to study in a good school. Why do they need your help? We are all human beings. We all have two legs and hands, we all need food to survive, we all need a good home to stay, and especially a good education to better our future.

As the present day, 70 percents of Cambodian children do not get a proper education. They are forced to give up their study, often at the age of 14 or 15 years old, because they need to work to earn money to support their family and also their lives. What is the future for them?

Many adults are involved in drugs and have committed crimes, because they don’t have a sense of real purpose in this world. Many turn to crime, as a result of the environment which they live in. Young girls leave their village homes in search for more opportunities in the city. Some for instance, start off as garment workers, but sometimes things do not go according to their plans or their wishes. Some of them become prostitutes, and some even get infected with HIV or get pregnant at a young age. I have seen many in my village.

For those lucky enough to get a job, many of them do not earn enough money to feed their families, let alone themselves. Let me tell you why they don't have enough money. In 2004-2008s, the average salary is $45 per-month. If they want to earn more, that have work to work extra time. By working extra time they can get $100 or a little bit more than that. At the end of each month they have to pay for the electricity, the water, the room and the food. At least, $35-$40 is needed to pay for these things. What do you think if their salary is only $45? How much money is left for them and their family? That's why they need to work extra time. I forgot to tell you one thing, paying only $35 is cheap right? But the problem is that there are many people who share the one room. It is noisy and the living conditions are not good for them. They live in a bad environment which negatively affects their health everyday. I have seen many girls in my village who have become underweight. That was so different when they lived with their parents in the village. I asked them why have you become like that, and they told me that because they don't have enough food to eat. It does not mean Cambodia does not have food for its citizens but it is because the food is so expensive. If they want to eat a lot of food they have to pay more money on it. If they do so they won't have the money to support their families.

The dead end-job and low salary must be considered in Cambodia. The dead end-job I refer to here, are the jobs that the people work only one thing for their whole life. Unlike the Japanese who often train their employees with new skills, the Cambodian garment worker gets nothing after their working life in the factory. They don't have any other skills to perform other jobs. For example, when the company lay them off, the only one way is to go back home and wait for another chance to work again. Therefore, every company must consider about this matter.

Finally I don't have much idea but only one thing is that the Government or any Organization must take care and solve this problem for the Cambodian employees.
